About This Fossil
This genuine tooth belonged to a Plesiosaur, one of the most iconic marine reptiles to ever patrol the prehistoric oceans. This specimen displays the characteristic conical shape and subtle longitudinal striations that helped these apex predators grip slippery prey such as fish and cephalopods. Its dark, sleek enamel is beautifully preserved, offering a tactile connection to the Cretaceous seas.
During the Late Cretaceous, the area now known as Morocco was submerged beneath the Tethys Ocean, a warm, shallow sea teeming with life. As an 'unpacked' predator, the Plesiosaur played a vital role in this ecosystem, and finding such a well-preserved dental remain allows us to appreciate the sheer scale and hunting prowess of these 'sea monsters'.
Formation & Preservation
This tooth was recovered from the famous phosphate mines of Khouribga. These deposits are renowned globally for their exceptional preservation of marine vertebrate remains. The unique chemical environment of the ancient seabed allowed for the rapid mineralisation of teeth and bone, protecting them from decay and erosion over tens of millions of years.
What Makes This Specimen Special
What makes this piece particularly desirable is the integrity of the enamel and the sharpness of the tip. Teeth from the Khouribga deposits are prized by collectors for their deep, rich colouration and the fine anatomical details that remain visible after 70 million years.

Origin & Natural Variation
Stated origin (Khouribga, Morocco) and formation (Phosphate Deposits of the Ouled Abdoun Basin) reflect the best information from our supplier and accepted geological literature. Where exact locality cannot be independently verified, we describe the formation rather than a single quarry.
Fossils are natural objects. Expect minor variation in colour, matrix, mineralisation, and surface detail. Any significant repair, restoration, or composite preparation is disclosed in the description — we never present restored areas as original without saying so.
