Cookie Policy
Last updated: 2 June 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how Deep Time Fossils ("we", "us") uses cookies and similar technologies on deeptimefossils.co.uk. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, tablet, or phone) when you visit a website. They allow the site to remember your actions and preferences over time.
We also use related browser storage technologies — localStorage and sessionStorage — which work in a similar way but store data directly in your browser rather than in a cookie file.
We only use essential cookies
Under the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), websites must obtain consent for non-essential cookies. We currently use only strictly necessary cookies and storage — these are exempt from consent because they are required for the site to work properly.
We do not use advertising cookies, third-party analytics cookies (such as Google Analytics), social media trackers, or behavioural profiling cookies.
| Name | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| cookie-consent | Remembers that you have dismissed the cookie banner so it doesn't reappear on every page. | localStorage | Until cleared |
| sb-*-auth-token | Keeps you signed in to your customer account between visits (set by our authentication provider). | localStorage | Until sign out |
| cart | Stores the contents of your shopping basket so it persists if you close the tab. | localStorage | Until cleared |
| recently-viewed | Powers the "Recently Viewed" section on product pages. | localStorage | Until cleared |
| exit-intent-shown | Prevents our exit-intent popup from showing more than once per visitor. | localStorage | Until cleared |
| __stripe_* | Set by Stripe during checkout for fraud prevention and to process your payment securely. Only set when you reach the checkout page. | Cookie (Stripe) | Up to 1 year |
Stripe is our payment processor. Their cookies are essential to comply with payment card industry (PCI) rules and prevent fraud. See Stripe's cookie policy for details.
How our cookie banner works
The first time you visit, you'll see a small banner at the bottom of the page letting you know we use essential cookies. Because we only use strictly necessary cookies, the banner is informational — clicking Accept simply records your acknowledgement so the banner doesn't reappear on every page.
Your acknowledgement is stored locally in your browser as the cookie-consent entry. If you clear your browser data, the banner will reappear on your next visit.
If we ever introduce non-essential cookies (for example analytics or marketing), we will update this page and replace the banner with a full preference centre that lets you opt in or out by category, in line with UK GDPR and PECR requirements.
Managing cookies on this site
You can reset your cookie preferences for this site at any time:
- Open your browser's developer tools (usually F12 or right-click and choose Inspect)
- Go to the Application (Chrome / Edge) or Storage (Firefox / Safari) tab
- Under Local Storage, find
deeptimefossils.co.ukand delete thecookie-consententry - Refresh the page — the banner will reappear
You can also sign out of your account from the Account page, which removes the authentication entry. Emptying your basket clears the cart entry.
Managing cookies in your browser
Most browsers let you block, restrict, or delete cookies for any website. Please note that blocking essential cookies may stop the site working properly — for example, you may not be able to sign in or complete a purchase.
For more general guidance, the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) provides information on cookies at ico.org.uk/your-data-matters/online/cookies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time — for example, if we add new functionality or change our payment provider. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.
