This specimen is a genuine fragment of fossilised dinosaur eggshell, recovered from the renowned deposits of Henan Province, China. Unlike skeletal remains, these fragments offer a poignant glimpse into the beginning of a dinosaur's life cycle. The piece exhibits a distinctive granular texture on its exterior surface, a characteristic feature of mineralised shell that has survived the immense pressures of deep time.
Dating to the Late Cretaceous, these fragments originate from a period when dinosaurs remained the dominant terrestrial vertebrates across Asia. Henan was then a dynamic landscape of floodplains and river systems, providing the ideal sedimentary conditions to entomb and preserve nesting sites.
